In this article we will look at the step by step process required to add a medication event for a client.
NB* Please ensure you have added the clients medication to the medication list first
For further information on this see article >> - Medication-List-
Step 1- Navigate to the medication tracker page
Step 2 - Select "create medication event"
Step 3- Start typing the name of the medication into the "select medication" field and select the medication from the drop down menu. The system auto-suggests options from the Medication list as you type. The ability to save your choice will not appear if what you typed is not in the Medication list. The NHS side widget with additional details on that medication should appear from the right hand side.
Step 4- Add in the required details for the medication
Step 5- If required, users can select areas from the body map to apply medication to. This is useful for creams, pain patches etc to show the carers where the medication needs to be applied to.
Users can add up to 10 locations on the body.
Further, by clicking the yellow dot, users can change it to orange, then red. The 3 colours represent the different severity levels.
Once confirmed the button will update to "location has been set".
Step 5- Enter the quantity dispensed- ie; 1 x tablet
Step 6- Set the start date/finish date/review date- Admins can define how much medication is administered and choose a start date for it to commence from. If the medication is for a set period of time- they can select the finish date. They can also choose a date to review this medication schedule in order to determine if it should be continued/discontinued.
Step 7- Assign Times Medication should be taken: The time field can be altered to edit the time the medicine is to be administered. If its the case that the medication is to be taken multiple times a day, admins can click "Add Time To Schedule" to first commit the initial time set.
Alternatively, the times can be set as a period of day. Ie, Morning, afternoon, late etc
The default times are as follows:
Morning- 07:30am - 12:00pm
Afternoon- 12:00pm - 16:00pm
Evening- 16:00pm- 20:00pm
Late- 20:00pm - 22:30pm
Overnight- 22:30- 07:30am
All Day- 00:05am to 23:55pm
Step 8- Decide if the medication event is recurring daily/every 2 days etc or if it is a single once off event.
NB* PRN Medication
For PRN medication AKA 'pro re nata' (The administration of medication is not scheduled but the prescription is taken as needed.)
One Touch Health recommend adding "PRN" into the title of the medication when adding it into the medication list. Therefore, the carer will have to acknowledge this medication and reduce the risk of blank entries displaying on the EMAR chart.
For more information on the EMAR chart please see article >> -Auditing-EMAR-Charts
